Question: Is it permitted to have sex during pregnancy? Is there any evidence that prohibits it?
There is no evidence that prohibits sexual intercourse during pregnancy. The only situations that sexual intercourse is forbidden are the menstruation period of women and when a person is in ihram during pilgrimage.
That being said, the advice of doctors become more of an issue in this period. It is known that there is no harm in sexual intercourse health-wise until the last weeks of pregnancy. However, the couples should consult their doctor in these last weeks. If they are told that intercourse will be harmful to either the mother or the child, avoiding it becomes a command of the religion.
Because Allah the Almighty commands:
“Spend your wealth in the way of Allah and do not put yourselves in jeopardy with your own hands. Do all things gracefully, for Allah likes those who do all things with excellence.” (2:195)
