Question: We play soccer with our friends on artificial turf. The loser team either pays for the field rent or buys dessert to the winner team. Is there a problem with that?
All the games (whatever its name is) which are dependent on conditions like “The loser will pay the rent of field or buy dessert to the winner side” are assumed as gambling. It does not matter how small the amount of money is.
It does not mean that “You should not play game or football” but both sides should pay for the rent jointly or sequentially, not only the loser side.
The Glorified Allah describes the gambling as “dirt of devil” and commands us to keep away from it. The related verse is as follows:
The Glorified Allah commands:
“Oh you who believe! Intoxicants, gambling, idols, arrows for seeking the future or luck are all abominations, the works of the strayed. So, keep away from them that you may attain the true success. The strayed ones only desire to create grudge and hostility between you with intoxicants and gambling; and hinder you from the remembrance of Allah (Quran) and the prayers. Will you, now, desist?” (Al-Ma’ida/ The Feast 5:90-92)
