Human and Nature

HUMAN AND NATURE

All beings have a structure. Principles and laws that form improve and change the human, animals and plants expose this structure. This structure is called ‘fitrah’, The laws of science, technology and human relations are also extracted from this structure.

Religion, on the other hand, regulates the relations of human with God, human with human and human with nature. Principles, laws and rulings of religion are also compliant with nature (fitrah). God commands:

“Set your face directly to this religion, the nature of God, according to which He has created the mankind. There is nothing to substitute for what God created. That is the righteous religion, but most people do not know.” (Qur’an 30:30)

The nature (fitrah) is learned from signs that are created, and that are revealed by God. Everything God creates is a sign. The Almighty God ordains:

“We will show them Our Signs in the external environment, and in their own selves, until it becomes manifest to them that it is the truth.” (Qur’an 41:53)

Human always sees these signs, considers them and makes inferences accordingly. Global values and intellect are also formed this way. Human keeps on internalizing this information throughout his life. This information is called ‘dhikr’. Remembering and mentioning it, is also called ‘dhikr’.

That information is in is perfect harmony with the book of God. Common name of holy books is ‘dhikr’, too. The Almighty God commands as follows about Qur’an:

“Indeed, it is We who sent down that dhikr (The Qur’an) and surely, We will be Its guardian.” (Qur’an 15:9)

Therefore, every human being that reads and understands Qur’an sees the harmony of the dhikr in himself and the dhikr in Qur’an. Thus, he acquires feelings of complete safety and satisfaction for Qur’an, leaving no room for doubt that it is the book from God. The Almighty God commands:

“Know that, by the dhikr of God, do hearts calm down and rest.” (Qur’an 13:28)

Man can obtain as much information as he comprehends the signs of God, which exist in the nature and in the Qur’an.

Beings other than human cannot behave against the nature (fitrah). Since God creates human with reason, free will and designated power, he can behave against the nature. This behavior corrupts his relations with the self, the other people and the environment.

Benefits, expectations or wannabes are the main instincts that push them to behave like that. Then they get used to behaving this way and do not feel disturbed, and even begin to enjoy themselves. But when they think a little about it, the discomfort hidden inside comes out of nowhere. The Almighty God commands:

“The building which they built will never cease to be a cause of doubt in their hearts, unless their hearts are cut to pieces.” (Qur’an 9:110)

Sins are behaviors that are against the nature. Good deeds are behaviors that comply with the nature but are difficult to perform. Man feels the rights and wrongs inside. God commands:

“And by the One Who inspired the soul its rebelliousness, and its self-protection. He has succeeded who purifies it, and he has failed who fouls and defiles it.” (Qur’an 91:8-10)

Whoever behaves against the human nature feels uncomfortable at first. Then, he either gives up or carries on. This discomfort is because God inspires the soul that it rebels. This is a warning mechanism that tells: “You are doing wrong!” After this rebellion, man feels anxious which urges him to repent.

‘Taqwa’ means protecting the self from wrongs. Behaviors that comply with taqwa relieve the person. This is also an inspiration from God, which intuits “its self protection” to the soul.

Wabisa b. Mabad says: “I came to the Messenger Muhammad and he said: ‘You have come to ask about righteousness?’. I said: ‘Yes.’ Then he tapped his chest thrice with his closed fingers and said: ‘Wabisa, consult your heart, consult yourself! Goodness is what your heart finds peace in. Sin is what disturbs the heart, the thing that wanders around in chest, even though people had given you a fatwa or had found the thing that you do acceptable.’ ”

People would not face such cases if they preceded their minds and reason instead of feelings and short-term benefits because, “He (God) lays disgrace upon those who do not use their minds.”  (Qur’an 10:100)

Source of science is also fitra. Scientists or technologists do not make laws, but try to discover the laws in current signs/verses. This is how they comply with the creation (fitrah). Some of social scientists also read the signs correctly and discover the laws but many of them prefer to set rules, and try to shape society. This attitude causes practices which are against the laws of creation in social context. Harmful consequences of this become apparent in time, and the balance is disrupted.

It is also probable to corrupt the human and the environment by using the results obtained via science and technology against the creation. Indeed, such disasters are rife in this day and age. Allah the Almighty commands:

“Corruption has appeared throughout the land and sea by [reason of] what the hands of people have earned so He may let them taste part of [the consequence of] what they have done, that perhaps they will return [to righteousness].” (Qur’an 30:41)

No rulings of Qur’an contradict to nature (fitrah), because fitra is Islam. The nature and Qur’an must be utilized well to be able to expound one another. If any conflict emerges, that must be because of not duly complying with the Book.
