Compensation of unfulfilled fasting duties

Question: What should a person do if he/she did not fast a day without any excuse during Ramadan? Should he/she fast for 61 days to compensate for it, or is 1 day enough?

One, who declares himself/herself as a Muslim does not have a right to omit fasting without an excuse in Ramadan. This means a disobedience to the clear orders of God. There is no compensation for it besides a sincere turnaround and the renouncement of this attitude.

The Messenger of Allah said:

“Whoever breaks a fast in Ramadan without an excuse or sickness, a whole life of fast will not replace that broken one.” (Bukhari, Sawm/Fast, 29)
