Question: I am a programmer and want to get into game development. I heard something about music and the Shaikh was saying that people who spend money on investing in things that are distractions from Dhikr Allah are sinning. I was wondering if this is also applicable to developing games, because people will spend money on it?
While making a judgment on a matter, the following principle is observed:
‘Permissibility is the original state of things (al-Asl fi al–Ashya al-Ibaha).’
What may cause game development to be forbidden would be inclusion of elements that are forbidden or disliked in Islam.
According to this, developing games which DO NOT include elements of gambling, speculations, eroticism or violence, and which may help the improvement of the gamers from different aspects is permissible.
