Question: Last year, a newspaper took 100 from its readers to Umrah. The participants were chosen by drawing lots. Everyone that had collected 49 coupons could have the chance to join the organization. Is there something wrong with this?
Answer:
There is nothing wrong with this unless the readers were paying any extra amount to buy the newspaper with those coupons. It doesn’t make this organization a gamble if the newspaper determines people who will come to Umrah by drawing lots. What makes it gamble is whether you are paying an extra fee for the coupons or not.
