My mother makes us iftar 30 minutes late. What should we do?

Question: We experience the same issue at home every Ramadan. My father says “make iftar with the azan” while my mother says “make iftar 30 minutes after the azan”. Which one is true? What should we do here in Turkey?

Iftar can be done right after the sunset. There’s no problem at the calendars. You can make iftar with the azan. There’s no need to wait for 30 minutes. The time where you need to wait 30 minutes is the imsaq. When you hear the call for prayer at imsaq, you have to wait at least 30 minutes before offering your prayer.
